E-H talking pedal I just earlier this evening found out that what I thought was a talking pedal was actually called a Golden Throat. What does a talking pedal do, and how does it work? Is it the same thing as a Golden Throat? They are completely different. The golden throat is a “talk box” like Frampton, Walsh, etc used. It is a speaker driver connected to a tube which goes in your mouth and needs to be miked through a PA to be used. Your mouth acts as a filter. The Talking pedal is like a big wah wah pedal, but instead of saying “WAH” it says “eee aaaa iiii oooo uuuu” when it is moved, the vowel sounds. It goes in the path between the guitar and amp, much more useable than a talk box.

I actually had a natural wood coloured Japanese Westone Strat that I really liked but sold last year since the neck profile was a bit too flat for my liking. I really thought that Tacoma had something to do with Tama for some reason, but apparently not. Mine has a fancy pants real inlay logo on the headstock while theirs have printed logos but then at least one of theirs have grey bottom pickups which I wished mine had too, my Tokai Silver Star SS has that and they sound awesome.

This website is frequently updated. Last update October I do not want to repeat the information that can be found there, but I felt since I do my own thing here with sound clips that a general guide to those effects is necessary, but I highly recommend you check out Gilmourish for a comprehensive guide to all of David Gilmour’s gear and an album by album gear guide. Below is a guide to the basic effects gear needed to create a typical David Gilmour lead tones as heard on Pink Floyd studio and live recordings.
I have used every one of these effects at one time or another. This is not a comprehensive list of every effect Gilmour ever used, but just a general guide for getting the tones. It goes without saying that you should use a Stratocaster type guitar with vintage style single coil pickups for the majority of Gilmour’s tones, and most importantly, learn to play in a similar style. A vintage style wah pedal, like a Vox Wah, can also be used for some very early Pink Floyd, such as the bird like screams you hear in the middle section of Echoes, and the wailing sounds heard on Is There Anybody Out There.
Additional pedals like a Digitech Whammy for Marooned and The Blue and a volume pedal can be used for certain songs. EMG-SA pickups were also key to the tones from this era. For David Gilmour tones from the On an Island era you need: Additional pedals like a Digitech Whammy for The Blue and a volume pedal can be used for certain songs. Modulation like Boss chorus and a Uvi-Vibe type pedal can also be used, but David used very little modulation in this period.

Fernandes Burny Here’s a quick way to tell if you have a Matsumoku factory guitar whether branded or not. That’s a dead giveaway that you’ve got one of “Uncle Matt’s” guitars. As I said above, Fujigen and the other manufacturers produced guitars with no logos at all for sale around the world. That in itself shouldn’t cause much confusion, because we know from Hoshino that “if it doesn’t say Ibanez” it’s not an Ibanez.
However, Fujigen Gakki, the manufacturer of Ibanez-branded guitars would provide stock, no-name images to Hoshino and other distributors for use in their catalogs.

Best Jump on these while they are still here and available!! The values have drifted a little measure about. In fact, I have sold over a dozen or so of these over the past year and these examples are by far the cleanest I have seen in a long time!! Gauranteed to work upon arrival! Please mail with any questions.
So this It is the reason it was prematurely retired years ago. Notice that this pickup bottom plate has the regular mounting holes , as well as the diagonal corner holes as used on early 50’s les pauls. The volume pot probably needs to be cleaned or rebuilt to make this wire harness function to it’s best and complete capability. I will give that a try here soon when I get the chance. Your chance to get a great deal on a real piece of Gibson History.
These are DC. They are black with the orange ban as you can see from the photos. These were used in the 50s Les Pauls for that monster Gibson Vintage tone. They can be used in many guitars and really sound great paired with vintage CTS pots.

The type of pickups varied depending on the guitars original selling price and the Nisshin Onpa (Maxon) made “Dry Z” or Fuji-Gen Gakki made “Dry 82” pickups were reserved for the top end models. The lower end models such as the EG mostly used 3-piece maple tops while the higher end models mostly used 2-piece maple tops.
Hoshino Gakki decided in to make Spanish-style acoustic guitars , at first using the “Ibanez Salvador” brand name, and later simply “Ibanez. This resulted in the so-called lawsuit period. During this period, Ibanez produced guitars under the Mann name to avoid authorities in the United States and Canada. The company has produced its own guitar designs ever since. The late s and early s were an important period for the Ibanez brand.
Most Ibanez guitars were made by the FujiGen guitar factory in Japan up until the mid- to late s, and from then on Ibanez guitars have also been made in other Asian countries such as Korea, China, and Indonesia. Cimar and Starfield were guitar and bass brands owned by Hoshino Gakki. In the s, Hoshino Gakki and Kanda Shokai shared some guitar designs, and so some Ibanez and Greco guitars have the same features. The Greco versions were sold in Japan and the Ibanez versions were sold outside Japan.

This Spacey Sound Greco SE looks like it just came out of the factory and has been on the display rack at Guitar Centre for just a little while. The nickel parts have almost no oxidation and the finish on the body is very shiny with only a couple of small scratches and dents. This is a later Greco which has the vintage Kluson tuners with the simple bushing.

Here is an email from Maxon. They did not use Alnico 7. Alnico 7 magnets are not really used for any brand of pickups like Seymour Duncan DiMarzio etc, there might be odd exceptions but Alnico 7 isn’t a magnet that pickup makers use much. If there is a MIJ pickup list then it should try to be as accurate as possible otherwise it has no meaning, if the info is available from Maxon themselves then that should be used.
If Maxon says they used Alnico 3, 5 and 8 then that should be what is included unless someone has solid evidence for something like Alnico 7. Some people get Alnico 8 and Alnico 7 mixed up, I don’t know why but they do. In the Maxon made Super 70 ads from the s, Alnico 8 is mentioned as the magnet used. I don’t want to be a pain in the but Maxon did use Alnico 3 and Alnico 5 and Alnico 8 and not Alnico 7. Dear Michael, We tried to find the old technical information and checked thoroughly about all the pickups.
However, there was no information that we can trace from model number such as U All the information we have in the warehouse is just delivery numbers for guitar assembly factory. All the information we can provide is as follows. Alnico3, Alnico 5 and Alnico8 were used for Alnico pickups.

F is the production factory which stands for Fujigen. The first digit will be the last digit of the year, ie. The last 5 numbers will be the consecutive number denoting production count for the year with the caveat that each month will start at predetermined intervals of or , etc. Presently it is set at These serial numbers are usually quite different from the MIJ numbers, have many extra digits because of the enormous volume of guitars produced, and I am not familiar enough with any of them to tell you how to figure out the dating.
Cort Serial Numbers – Cort serial numbers are denoted with a C prefix followed by either 7 or 8 digits.
Mar 07, · Ibanez “Super 70” pickups made by Nisshin Onpa (Maxon) had a alnico 8 magnet. Ibanez “Super 58” pickups made by Nisshin Onpa (Maxon) had a alnico 3 magnet. Ibanez “Super 80” pickups made by Nisshin Onpa (Maxon) had a ceramic magnet.
I don’t honestly know how thats possible. I run an 06′ Les Paul Standard with BB Pros right into the amp GA5 also in the hi output jack, and I start to get that sweet sweet overdrive at about a third of the way up. The next third I like to really interact with the sound of the volume and tone knobs on my guitar for different levels of gain and tones.
The GA-5 is a very vintage tuned type of amplifier. The speaker really has to be broken in which mine finally is, and you really need to control the amp with your guitars controls. The only way to really get overdrive is to turn up that one volume chicken knob, and plug into the Hi output jack.

Still, the song that brings out the enthusiastic grin on most of us is of course Dogs. Dogs dates back to the middle of the Dark Side of the Moon tour. David wrote most of the music later stated that he was particularly proud of the chord progression. The earliest version even had a long choir part in the middle section, similar to what David and Richard used to do on the 4-piece live version of Atom. Throughout the tour Roger would rewrite the lyrics several times as David found it too hard to sing — there were just too many words Musician, August
The AD runs off a special volt adaptor which gives it more headroom and less chance of overdriving the input with hot pickups. Sonically, some people feel the AD is slightly darker than either the AD80 or AD
History[ edit ] Maxon Nisshin Onpa started out in the mid s as a guitar pickup manufacturer. In they also became an effects pedal manufacturer, primarily as a producer of OEM products for other companies. During that time Nisshin Onpa was responsible for building a fuzz-wah pedal that was very popular, being marketed under a multitude of trade names including Ibanez. During the s Ibanez became one of the company’s main OEM customers. Nisshin Onpa also marketed its pedals under its own Maxon name during this time.
When Nisshin Onpa and Ibanez parted ways in , Nisshin Onpa began to more aggressively market its own line of Maxon pedals. Repositioning itself as a manufacturer of high-end mass-produced effects, Maxon expanded its line of analog pedals, using rare NOS components and classic circuit designs that are to this day highly respected and sought after. Maxon continues to expand its product line. Although they produced digital delays and reverbs during the s and ’90s, they now concentrate mostly on “hard-to-find elsewhere” vintage type effects such as analog delays, analog choruses and flangers, and classic overdrive and distortion units.
